Reach your agent from your phone

Sometimes the useful moment happens when you are away from the laptop: approve a command, send one more thought, check whether the task finished, or keep a thread alive while you move rooms.

The exact setup depends on your harness. Claude Code uses Remote Control. Codex uses Codex Mobile inside the ChatGPT app.

Claude Code

Use this when

You started a local Claude Code session on your computer and want to continue it from your phone. Your computer still does the work, so keep Claude Code running and the machine awake.

1

Install the Claude mobile app

Install Claude on your phone and sign in with the same account and organization you use for Claude Code on your computer.

2

Turn on Remote Control from your computer

In the Claude Code conversation you want to continue, type:

/remote-control

Claude may show a session link or a QR code. If it does, use that. Otherwise, the session will appear in the Code area of the app.

3

Open it from your phone

In the Claude mobile app, go to Code and find the conversation. Open it, send a message, approve tools, or check progress from there.

Tip: turn it on for every new session

If you find yourself reaching for Remote Control often, you can skip the per-session step and have every new local session start with it on. In Claude Code settings, open Claude Code and turn on Enable remote control by default. After that, any new local session is ready on your phone without typing /remote-control first.

Claude option 2: start a cloud chat. If your computer is not available, you can start from Claude's Code area instead. That runs in Anthropic's cloud, not on your laptop, so your workspace needs to be pushed to GitHub first. Installing Git is only the first step. See Back up and share with GitHub.

Keep your laptop reachable

Remote phone access only works while the computer running your agent is still awake enough to answer. You can let the screen turn off, but do not let the laptop fully sleep, shut down, or run out of battery.

  • Plug in the laptop before you walk away.
  • Open System Settings, then go to Battery and Options. Turn on Wake for network access.
  • If you see Prevent automatic sleeping on power adapter when the display is off, turn that on too.

Stuck or need help?

Send a message and it comes straight to me. Tell me where you got stuck and I'll write back.

Rather have it done for you?

If following the steps yourself isn't how your brain works today, that's fine. On a Zoom call you share your screen and hand me control, and I set it up for you, right there on your own computer. You watch it come together and end the call with a working setup, nothing left on your plate.
